IT Trends 2023: What we can expect this year

Janina

As we enter the year 2023, new trends and challenges are also appearing for the IT industry. It is clear that the IT world is developing at a rapid pace.  Here are some of the most important trends that experts believe will define the industry in the coming year:

The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning

These technologies have already begun to transform many industries, and their impact on IT will only continue to grow. AI and machine learning will enable businesses to automate a wide range of tasks, from data analysis to customer service, allowing human employees to focus on more complex, creative tasks.

The growth of cloud computing

More and more businesses are moving their data and applications to the cloud so they can access powerful computing resources on demand and only pay for what they use. This trend will continue to accelerate in 2023 as businesses look to take advantage of the scalability, reliability and cost savings that cloud services offer.

The spread of the Internet of Things (IoT)

The number of connected devices is expected to continue to grow exponentially, with an estimated 75 billion IoT devices in use by 2025. For IT professionals, this presents both opportunities and challenges in managing and securing these increasingly complex networks. A major innovation in this area was announced last year with the new Matter-standard.

The rise of 5G

The next generation of mobile network technology, 5G, will offer faster speeds and lower latency than current networks, making it ideal for applications such as virtual reality and connected cars. As 5G networks become more widespread, we can expect new and exciting innovations in mobile technology and the IoT.
For example, according to the "Cisco Annual Internet Report", 5G connections are expected to grow to 1.4 billion this year (up from 13 million connections in 2019). Furthermore, 11% of devices and connections are expected to have 5G by the end of 2023.

The increasing importance of cyber security

As devices and systems become increasingly connected, so the risk of cyber-attacks also increases. IT professionals need to stay up-to-date on the latest threats and develop effective strategies to protect their organisations from malicious actors.
